10 Things You Didn't Know About Disney's The Haunted Mansion
4. Hitching A Ride
As you come towards the end of the ride, having encountered all manner of creepy characters, you're ready to leave the afterlife behind and return to the land of the living. However, a few ghosts want to come along for the ride. You'll see the three hitchhiking ghosts standing there asking for a lift, and then as you pass by the mirrors they will appear on top of your carts, getting up to all kinds of japes. These are the Prisoner, a small, hairy ghost with a ball and chain shackled to his ankle; the Traveler, an overweight hunchback with a top hat and carpet bag; and the Skeleton, a dapper, grinning gent. Although they did not initially have names, fan fiction created by Cast Members gave them the names of Gus, Phineas, and Ezra, and these have since been adopted into official merchandise.

A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
