Kate Rooney Mara was born on February 27, 1983 in New York to Tim and Kathleen Mara. Her father is a scout and vice president of the player evaluation side of the New York Giants football team, while her sister Rooney Mara has found fame with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network. But going one step further than her immediate family, Mara's uncle is John Mara, the president, CEO, and co-owner of the franchise, and the son of the late Giants owner Ann Mara, who died earlier in 2015. Kate's great-grandfather Tim founded the team back in 1927. It's not just the Giants that her family has an interest in, with Mara also being the great-granddaughter of the Pittsburgh Steelers' founder Art Rooney, with his son Dan the current chairman of the franchise.
