10 Things You Didn't Know About Ralph Fiennes

1. He Nearly Joined The Army

There was time when Fiennes was 16 or 17 when he had an inkling that he might like to join the army. He went on a school trip to the Royal Green Jackets barracks at Winchester where it was extremely rainy and bleak. The school party visited a heath where they€™d dug slit trenches in the chalk, where he remembers there was some 'benign teasing'. Apparently they were all very well looked after on the trip, and as an experience it was fine, but Fiennes came away thinking €œI€™m not sure that€™s for me€. And thank god, because otherwise his range of fabulous films would never have been made, and that would have been very sad for all of us.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
