10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Pirates Of The Caribbean Ride

9. The Louisiana Purchase

As you pass through the ride you'll notice plenty of piles of uncovered gold, and it's a good job too, as they'll have needed it when building the ride.

Pirates of the Caribbean cost an approximated $8m dollars to build, while New Orleans Square - the area of the park in which it is housed - only cost a total of $15m to create. That's one valuable ride, so no wonder pirates couldn't wait to get their hands on it.

Even more remarkable is that the $15m used on that area, which is of course inspired by Louisiana, cost the same amount of money as the Louisiana Purchase itself. The facade of the building was also inspired by the Cabildo building in New Orleans' Jackson Square.
