As mentioned previously, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are now more famous than the ride, and a large part of that is due to Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow, the Keith-Richards-as-a-pirate figure who has swashed and buckled his way through all four films to date.

Not content with being the star of the films, he has now muscled his way onto the ride, a reflection of how much more universally known the movies are now. When it was announced that he'd be added to the attraction back in 2006 there was a lot of skepticism about it, however the original Imagineers were actually on-board with it, with X. Antencio and Marty Sklar saying: "The addition of Capt Jack Sparrow (and other features from the film) to the park attraction was done beautifully – from a story standpoint they fit beautifully."

He has been added to all versions of the ride bar one, the ride at Disneyland Paris. Although this was the superior version even before Jack Sparrow was introduced at the others, it has even more originality now, although that will unfortunately change when Captain Jack is added in a couple of years.
