10 Things You Didn't Know You Could Do With Apple Music
7. Discovering 'For You'
Apple Music is hoping, like every other subscription service and their cat, to be able to suggest new music, media, or videos to you based on your already existing iTunes library. As such, as soon as you sign up to the new service, the For You tab becomes accessible. Users will be presented with an array of little bubbles that represent artists that Apple has recognised that you like, or have listened repeatedly to, and by tapping those bubbles Apple Music will use its algorithms to suggest new artists you might enjoy.
One tap tells Apple that you 'like' the artist, while two taps signifies 'loving' the artist. While it sounds like something that children might do in the playground, it does allow for a little more versatility that other services do not provide.
There are, of course, some issues with automated curation (and we certainly wouldn't want you to think that WhatCulture was blowing Apple's trumpet for them). Hidden within the seemingly innocuous suggestion service is the obvious fault that Apple's curation is based upon faceless music genres, as host of the Isometric Show Steve Lubitz has argued, rather than any sort of intelligent design such as that Last.fm offers.
