10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About The Harry Potter Books
3. Ron Was Nearly Killed Off
Following the release of the final Harry Potter movie, Rowling had an on-screen conversation with Daniel Radcliffe. And during this exchange, she revealed that Ron was almost killed off.
Again, she doesn’t elaborate too much. But she does open up about her creative struggles midway through the series and how this made her consider killing one of the central trio, purely as a spiteful response to her own problems. Indeed, Rowling had previously talked about the pressure she was under whilst writing The Goblet of Fire.
Presumably, it was around this time that she considered killing Harry’s best friend. Yet it’s unlikely he would have died this early on. Chances are she was envisioning his death at a later point – probably at the end of The Deathly Hallows. But this is pure speculation.
Still, it’s interesting to know Rowling genuinely thought about killing off a central character at one point.
