10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About The Harry Potter Books
4. Hermione Is Based On Rowling’s Adolescence
Hermione appears in the sixth chapter of the first book. She’s bossy, irritable, and rather full of herself. Following the incident with the troll, her obsession with school rules lapses somewhat and she becomes a close friend of Harry and Ron.
But she’s still obsessed with books and academic achievement. This intellectual fixation is based on Rowling’s own adolescence. Like Hermione, however, the author relaxed as she got older and became more outwardly feminine.
Indeed, Hermione has the most significant arc out of the three main characters – she’s even more complex than Harry. Her transition from a snobby know-it-all to a fiercely brave witch is one of the best aspects of the series.
