10 Things You Should Know About Splash Mountain
10. The Song Of The South
One of Disney's most famous attractions was inspired by possibly the most controversial release in the company's history.
Splash Mountain takes inspiration from the movie Song of the South that featured Uncle Remus (who we can assume is a former slave) recounting tales of Br'er Rabbit to children.
The film was considered offensive to African American Heritage and some even picketed the movie when it was released in cinemas in 1946. As yet, the film has still not been made available for home viewing in the US although it has in some countries.
Splash Mountain features the animated characters from the movie including Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox. Rather than retelling just one of the stories from the movie the ride contains a few different tales that feature in the Uncle Remus stories.
