Rowling held off on revealing this detail for so long than an entire series of Harry Potter films was created, each of which (according to Rowling) completely mispronounces the name of its ultimate villain. Turns out Lord VoldeMORT is closer to Lord VoldeMORE. In a 2015 post on Twitter, Rowling stated that the letter t at the end of the Dark Lord's name was intended to be silent. Why she chose to withhold this information from film-makers is anybody's guess, but as the author behind the character, fans can't do anything but accept this new information.
