10 Tragic Deaths That Happened At Disney Theme Parks

4. A Monorail Collision Left A Driver Dead (Walt Disney World)

Here's another example of a Disney employee being killed as a result of a horrific accident due to Disney's own negligence - an incident that wracked up $24 million in damages. Back in 2009, a Purple Monorail driver named Austin Wuennenberg died at Walt Disney World in Florida when another monorail carriage crashed into the stationary carriage he was contained within at the "Transportation and Ticket Center." Wuennenberg was crushed in the collision and died as the authorities attempted to cut him out of the carriage. Thankfully, nobody else was hurt in the accident. Wuennenberg's mother, Christine Wuennenberg, sued Disney over the collision and the matter was settle out of court. It was later revealed that the cause of the accident "was the shop panel operator's failure to properly position switch-beam 9 and the failure of the monorail manager acting as the central coordinator."
