10 Types Of People You Will Meet In Fresher's Week
10. The Privately Educated Posh Lot
The privately schooled student is not found exclusively in Oxford or Cambridge. Neither are they only found in top tier universities. They are spread across the country just like everybody else, except with an aura of entitlement and superiority that is both unwarranted and incessantly irritating. There are two distinct reactions when a privately schooled student is forced to mix with the rest of us riff raff. Either they seclude themselves and stay within their own small circle of likeminded peers, or they overcome the social barriers and mix with everybody else. The latter may be more desirable, but by staying within their own circle you will see how similar some people are; matching clothes, accents and gadgetry mean that within two weeks at university you will be able to identify them with little more than a glance. They stick out like a sore thumb... just look at Jack Whitehall in the photo above. This is not to say that privately educated people should be avoided, but that you will be able to tell almost immediately how different their upbringing was to yours. Take a chance and try to befriend them; in the worst case scenario you are rejected, and in the best case you will widen and diversify your friendship group. When you are finally moved into your halls and left alone you realise that for the first time in your life you are truly isolated, so the importance of having a wide friendship group cannot be understated.
