10 Unexplained Deaths That Are Still A Mystery

2. The Lead Masks

The Lead Masks Case refers to the mysterious deaths of two electronics technicians, Miguel José Viana and Manoel Pereira da Cruz. Discovered on the 20th of August 1966, both bodies were dressed in a suit, a waterproof coat, and a lead eye mask. Though there were no signs of struggle or trauma, a notebook containing cryptic instructions was found nearby. Translated to English, the instructions read, "16:30 (04:30 PM) be at the agreed place. 18:30 (06:30 PM) swallow capsules, after effect, protect metals, wait for mask signal." Due to an extremely busy coroner's office, by the time the autopsy was conducted the two victims were too decomposed for reliable testing. Because of this, no official conclusion was given. The most common theory is that the two technicians were members of a cult that would take psychedelics in an attempt to trigger spiritual experiences. The local area was a hotspot for UFO sightings, and according to discovered writings by Viana, the eye masks were to defend against "intense luminosity" from unknown beings.
