10 Ways The Universe Could Kill Us All Tomorrow If It Wanted To

Damn space, you scary!

The universe is many things. First of all it's big, impossibly big, and measured in numbers and ratios that we don't even understand enough to be sure about. It's also beautiful, impossibly beautiful, and there are celestial bodies out there that we lack both the science and the poetry to fully describe. Most of all though, the universe is scary. Impossibly scary. While the night sky looks tranquil and peaceful from down here, it's the most terrifying and inhospitable place you could ever imagine. Leaving the safety of our fragile atmosphere would kill a human being four or five different ways in barely a heartbeat. All life and warmth on our planet comes from the sun, an 850,000 mile wide uncontrollable nuclear furnace that constantly spews out balls of fire with the force of 30 billion atomic warheads. Every. Single. Day. Planets smash into each other, entire galaxies are being sucked into black holes, and science keeps finding new and terrifying phenomenon that would wipe humanity out in the blink of an eye if they ever came close enough. Just to make things even less fair, despite the vastness of space and the problems traversing it, these end-of-days scenarios could be on planet earth in a flash if they so wished.
