10 Ways The Universe Could Kill Us All Tomorrow If It Wanted To

10. Gamma Ray Bursts

There's a lot of radiation out there in the universe. So much so, that if you so much as turn an unconnected television on, you can see and hear some of the radiation that's left over from the big bang - yeah, that's what static is. Thankfully our planet comes fully equipped with an O-Zone layer that not only protects the planet from some of the really bad stuff that's floating around out there, but even stops our own sun roasting people to a crisp. But that sort of radiation is a figurative super-soaker compared to the tidal wave of badness caused by a Gamma Ray Burst. Every single day in the universe, as often as most people eat a bowl of cereal, a giant star falls into a black hole and explodes - releasing more energy in a few seconds than the sun will put out in its entire life. The result more or less ruins the entire surrounding galaxy, and would simply fry our protective atmosphere before drenching the planet in radiation. There's a lot of galaxies in the universe, but if it's ours that ever has the unfortunate Gamma Ray incident then we'd not even see it coming. Think about that next time you're pouring your cornflakes out.
