10 Weirdly Pretentious Adverts That Make No Damn Sense

1. Dodge €“ God Made A Farmer

The first time I saw this, I thought, "what an awesome trailer for what seems to be a pretty interesting documentary on United States' agriculture". Then I realized it was a commercial for a truck. A truck! This commercial mentions nothing about trucks. Not one word uttered was anything remotely similar to "truck". And yet, this is a truck commercial. This is the perfect example of an overproduced and over-hyped commercial for an otherwise average product. Yes, farmers drive trucks. Sometimes. More often than not, even. But isn't the point of advertising to pander to the ideologies of all audiences? Dodge made this commercial because it's a beautiful commercial. They didn't make it so that anyone would feel they could buy one of their trucks. According to this commercial, only farmers can drive Dodge trucks because only farmers need and know how to use a Dodge truck. Dodge doesn't seem to celebrate farmers, either, with this little Oscar worthy clip. In fact, this commercial made me pity farmers. I now feel about farmers the way I view janitors €“ it is a terrible, disgusting, dirty job, but hey, somebody's gotta do it. Way to go, Dodge. I'll be sure to never buy your truck unless I start hoeing the fields. Which commercials do you hate? Share your picks below in the comments.
