One of Trump's few successes in public relations, even winning over people who normally couldn't stand him, was the TV series The Apprentice. Early seasons seemed to embrace Trump's quirks, making them almost endearing, and whatever you thought of Trump as a business sage, watching people compete for his blessing was certainly entertaining television. Then interest and ratings flagged, so Trump tried a celebrity version, which gave it a shot in the arm but more or less destroyed the premise of business dreamers waiting for Trump to make them somebody.
