In past campaigns, Trump seemed to be using a fake run for office just to improve his image or hype The Apprentice. But this time, he actually seems to be serious. Even by the relaxed standards of the Republican Party, Trump is a plutocrat who panders to average joes when it suits him and doesn't understand why they wouldn't love him (or fellow plutocrat Mitt Romney) enough to hand him a landslide victory. There will always be some people who do love Trump, for showing us that adolescent power fantasies really can be fulfilled. That does make him the most entertaining candidate in the race right now. But P.T. Barnum was wrong: you can go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people. Though Trump will probably keep his own fortune out of it, and just declare the venture bankrupt using other people's money... as usual.
