11 Adverts That Failed So Hard They Actually Won

3. Xbox One - Aaron Paul

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=606qxyYbo58 Who doesn't love Aaron Paul? Even if these days we're still waiting for him to do something other than slowly fall into the remnants of meme-dom and be remembered as "The B*tch Guy", the dude still has an incredibly likeable persona. So it was with his appearance in the new Xbox One advert still doing the rounds at time of writing that you'd think Microsoft would finally be onto a winner. Sadly however they seemed to completely forget that with an 'always-on' console that perpetually listens for commands, just having the television on whatsoever means that Paul's in-ad comment of 'Xbox On' has ended up activating consoles worldwide. That's not to mention the other commands that come in quick succession throughout the ad, making the console activate its TV functionality, before recording the whole thing itself too. Some reports have claimed this is a genius piece of intentional marketing, as it definitely gets the Xbox name and functionality-awareness out there - albeit with the Kinect as the butt of the joke.

2. Coca Cola - New Coke

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJoocpy7UBc In one of the most popular taglines still used today potential products bombing harder than the Dambusters, New Coke was initially thought of by the marketing team as a genius and revolutionary new way of reinvigorating their brand, as Coke deeper and deeper in an effort to beat Pepsi in 'The Cola Wars'. Instead though what obviously happened was people boycotted the product that tasted absolutely nothing like the original version, forcing Coke to admit their mistake and resurrect the old original formula before people abandoned them altogether for opposition. Check out this old advert from 1985 with Bill Cosby though - have you ever seen a more phoned in, fake and forced showing of a celebrity endorsing a new product?
