A Roman myth stated that 12 eagles had revealed themselves to Romulus, one of the founders of Rome, and given him a number that indicated how long Rome would survive. Some thought that each eagle represented ten years, so that it would fall 120 years after it was founded in 753 BC.

Rome was then expected to be destroyed in 634 BC. When nothing happened that year, a new theory calculated the mystical number based on the amount of days in the year. This resulted in people thinking the final day would be 365 BC.

This theory doesn't include the whole world ending, like most other apocalyptic theories, just Rome. However, they still feared a violent and scary end for their city and the people in it.
