3. Teodoro Obiang Nguema - Equatorial Guinea
A real s**t of a dictator, Nguema came to power in a military coup d'etat in Equatorial Guinea in 1979. He has been firmly incumbent in his position of dictator since then. He overthrew his crazy uncle President Macias in a bloody struggle and charged him with genocide of the Bubi. Macias was given the firing squad treatment. When Nguema came to power he told Equatorial Guinea that the days of suppression and forced labour were over. He even granted amnesty to political prisoners. Nguema has been 'elected' four times due to fraud and intimidation. His regime started off mild but has become more vicious over the years. It is now considered to be one of the harshest, oppressive, totalitarian states in the world. Torture, brutality, victimisation, poor living conditions all exist in Equatorial Guinea, for despite its rich oils reserves, unless you are a member of the ruling elite, this money will pass you by. Nguema has been called an even worse dictator than Mugabe by some. He has established a classic cult of personality around him - he has called himself a 'God' and his face is everywhere you turn in Equatorial Guinea. Speeches only serve for his further self aggrandisement, and not for the benefit of the citizens of the state. Nguema has a net worth of $600 million US dollars and the country is in the top 12 most corrupt nations. Finally, it is believed that Nguema has terminal prostate cancer and is grooming his son to take over whenever he dies. Also, Nguema has been accused of cannibalism and Equatorial Guinea was the scene of an attempted coup d'etat in 2005 in which Mark Thatcher (son of Maggie) was reputedly involved.
