2. Kim Jong-un - North Korea
At 30 years of age, he is the world's youngest head of state and he rules over one of the world's most heinous totalitarian dictatorships. People have described him as being 'a chip of the old block' - his father Kim Jong-il who tyrannised North Korea for decades. In 2011, his father died and he assumed North Korea's many positions held for dictators such as First Secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea and other OTT accolades I won't bore you with. Although most communist countries fell circa 1988-1990, North Korea remains, along with its guarded ally China, a bastion of Communism in the East. Jong-un's background and childhood are shrouded in mystery. His brother Kim Jung-nam was favourite to succeed but severely embarrassed the regime by attempting to enter Japan to visit Japanese Disneyland. From 2009 it was clear that Jong-un was to be his father's successor. His birthday is now a holiday in North Korea. When he took power, the authorities were quick to establish a cult of personality just like that of his father. To provoke tensions in an already tense South East Asia, Jong-un has been, since his induction as Supreme Leader of North Korea, very bellicose about testing the country's nuclear weapons and posturing on the border with South Korea. This has produced nearly universal ire as it is against international law. In March 2013, the North Koreans threatened a pre-emptive strike on the USA. Jong-un has flagrantly stated he is committed to building more nuclear weapons as late as August 2013. Just like his father, Jong-un perpetrates crimes against humanity by persecuting witnesses, ordering public executions, and sending people to political camps. He is reckoned to be behind the bombardment of Yeonpyeong and the sinking of the Cheonan, because he wanted to flex his military might in front of the world. A 2013 report from the UN recommended Jong-un to be indicted on war crimes. Finally, North Korea is the world's most secretive state and we will probably never know the extent of the suffering that its citizens go through under Kim Jong-un. We do know, however, that he has a very silly hairdo - seriously, he looks like he got in a fight with a lawn mower.
