Look, exercise is hard, and sometimes it's going to hurt.

That's the bad news, the good news is that you can combat this by letting off a string of your favourite four letter words the next time you're coming to the end of a particularly gruelling set of sit ups.

Researchers have found that when people swear, their pain tolerance increases, with lower perceived pain and even a lower heart rate.

Obviously, it's not a super idea to give your potty mouth free reign whilst jogging past the swings in the local park, but we're sure no one will mind if you mutter a couple of choice phrases under your breath the next time you feel like your legs are about to fall off in spin class.

This is also an excellent way of making it feel as though the world isn't about to end the next time you whack your big toe off the coffee table.
