The Grossflammenwerfer was the largest of the heavy flamethrowers utilised by the Germans in the First World War. Units assigned to operate the Grossflammenwerfer are said to have had the shortest life expectancies of any on the battlefield. The Grossflammenwerfer was far too heavy to be carried by a single soldier, requiring a two man crew. They'd be sent to the front of the ground force in order to clear trenches, putting them first in the line of fire. This was particularly dangerous, thanks to the Grossflammenwerfer's high volatility meaning it could potentially explode after even a small bump.
