11 Stages Of A Night Out In Bedford

7. Loving The Smoking Area In The Standard

While original 'Hob' fans were up in arms over the desecration of the beloved Hobgoblin and it's transition to (slightly) more upmarket The Standard, the refurbished venue has proven a great place for a few more drinks before really hitting the pubs and clubs with dance floors. Best bits: the old fashioned phone on the table by the stairs, which you've definitely taken a picture of yourself with; the upstairs bar where you'll always get served quicker than the bigger bar downstairs, and the random table football area where you can pretend to be ten again while swigging whiskey and cokes. And surely it wins hands down for being the nicest smoking garden in Bedford. The random foliage, the white (annoyingly cold in the winter) garden furniture and the long wooden benches make for some great cigarette chats with your friends.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
