11 Times "Health Guru" Celebrities Were Hilariously Wrong About Science

1. The Unstoppable Army Of Gluten Free-ks

The gluten free trend has become so endemic that it's impossible to single out just one celebrity that has leapt wildly onto the bandwagon.

With everyone from Russel Crowe to Miley Cyrus to everyone's favourite quinoa queen, Gwyneth Paltrow subscribing to this latest dietary fad, gluten has come under fire from all sides.

However, unless you have coeliac disease or a genuine intolerance, cutting gluten out of your diet is just going to be time consuming, expensive and completely pointless.

Russell Crowe claimed that going gluten free allowed him to lose 16lbs during his preparations for Gladiator. Impressive, but probably not true. The weight loss many people experience when going gluten free is largely due to the fact that it forces you to cut out a lot of the crappy, refined foods that you shouldn't be eating anyway - the gluten ain't got nothing to do with it.

Paltrow claims that her and her entire brood are allergic to gluten, sugar and dairy. However, the fact that they can have a "coke of the week" and eat pizza on the regs as a "treat" might suggest otherwise. Anyone with an actual gluten intolerance will probably tell you that ingesting gluten is about as far from a treat as it is possible to get.

Miley Cyrus has decided to go with the slightly less cerebral (but no less inaccurate) "Gluten is crapppp anyway!"

Takes all sorts (to be hoodwinked by snake-oil salesmen).
