11 Times "Health Guru" Celebrities Were Hilariously Wrong About Science
5. Suzi Quatro's Magic Colon
American singer-songwriter, Suzi Quatro, would often suffer from problems with her throat, a curse many singers must surely face.
Rather than putting this down to repeatedly exposing her vocal chords to the rigours of glam rock, Suzie reckons the problems could be originating at the "other end".
Quatro told the Daily Mail (the font of wisdom and good judgement): "I used to get a lot of sore throats and then one of my sisters told me that all illnesses start in the colon. I started taking a daily colon cleanser powder mixed with fresh juice every morning and it made an enormous difference. I’ve been doing it for 20 years."
Now, if we discovered that "all illnesses" begin in the colon, it would revolutionise medical science. We would be able to prevent literally every ailment by keeping a close watch on our guts. Cancer? Look at the colon. Depression? Look at the gut. Skin cancer? Off to the colonic irrigation clinic with you.
Taking colon cleansers are not only not going to work any miracles on your throat, but they probably won't do your colon much good either. Throat infections are caused by pathogens that enter through the nose and mouth, so treating them at the colon is about as effective as blowing your nose to cure a sprained ankle.
