2. Advertising Agency WPP Filmed A Commercial For Argentina's Olympic Team... Which Showed An Athlete Training On A British War Memorial In The Falkland Islands

British-based advertising agency WPP really did fail in a department they really should have excelled in when, in 2012, they produced an advert for the Argentine government ahead of the Olympic Games in London. In the commercial, a member of the Argentine Olympic hockey team is seen training in the Falkland Islands - and, in part of the controversial advert, the athlete is seen doing exercises directly on to a British war memorial before, at the end of the advert, this line flashes across the screen: "To compete on English soil, we train on Argentine soil."

The British government were outraged by the advert, insisting it be pulled, while the chief executive of WPP said he was "appalled", leading to the company making a donation to various war veterans' charities as soon as complaints flooded in. Carelessness in advertising at its very worst...
