10. Schweppes Accidentally Encouraged Italians To Buy "Toilet Water"... Instead Of Tonic

When Schweppes launched a promotional campaign in Italy for their Indian tonic they didn't take into account that "il water" means "the bathroom" in Italian.

Naturally, the company did not want to sell toilet water - but their Indian tonic instead - and so they quickly altered the name to "Schweppes Tonica" in order to correctly advertise their product. Luckily for Schweppes, their product didn't get flushed down the proverbial Italian toilet...
