We've pretty much learned that all you had to do to be accused and convicted of being a witch, was to be a human being. It didn't matter if you were poor, rich, old, young, single, married, a loner, popular, male, female or had any pets; if someone pointed the finger at you, it was likely that you were going to die shortly afterwards.
