12 Insane Real-Life Prison Breaks You Won't Believe

11. Yoshie Shiratori - Miso Soup

Yoshie Shiratori was arrested back in 1933 for robbery, but while he awaited sentencing, he picked the locks of his handcuffs and fled. He was re-captured, but his second escape came about by sliding through air vents in the ceiling, but again, he proved to be lacking in the 'stop getting arrested' department. His third escape was his most ingenious. He would receive a bowl of miso soup at meal times, but he'd use a large portion of that to rust away his handcuffs and a small section of the jail bars. Eventually he rusted his way to freedom, but was obviously caught again and this time was thrown onto death row. Shiratori used a slim piece of sheet metal to slice through the cell floorboards, before using a bowl to dig his way to freedom for a fourth time. In 1948, he was allegedly tired of running, and so he asked a nearby police officer for a cigarette, before turning himself in. His death sentence was reduced, and was released 13 years later on parole.
