12 Insane Real-Life Prison Breaks You Won't Believe
8. Alfie Hinds - Bathroom Dash
Alfie Hinds was a true genius, and with three escapes to his name, he was dubbed as 'Houdini Hinds' for his daring, yet calculated breakouts. He led a troubled childhood, and was later called up for WWII, but once peace was restored, he was jailed for robbery. Hinds managed to somehow work his way out of the locked doors in the prison before scaling a 20ft wall undetected. He worked as a builder throughout Europe for the majority of a year before being caught and thrown back in jail. However, while on trial, his accomplice smuggled a padlock to him and after asking to go to the toilet, he pushed both of the guards escorting him into one cubicle and padlocked the door shut before dashing away. He was re-arrested hours later, but escaped jail for a third time, before being caught for a third time. Hinds served out the rest of his sentence, but won a court case - along with money and celebrity status - after one of the arresting officers wrote a newspaper column mocking Hinds' claims of innocence. Years later, Hinds gave a talk to some university students, who pulled a stunt by 'arresting' him and putting him in the basement, though he managed to free himself and escape the room, before locking it with all of the students inside.
