7. 1000+ Taliban Fighters - Suicide Bombers/Tunnel
Sarposa Prison in Kandahar, Afghanistan is a notorious prison 'controlled' by the Afghan National Police, and in the last seven years it has played host to two huge-scale breakouts that have left the region in shock. In May 2008, following a hunger strike by many of the inmates, a tanker truck rolled up to the gates and exploded, killing 15 of the policemen on duty, while a suicide bomber exploded at the back gates. Insurgents flooded the area, bombarding the walls until it was breached. It's thought that up to 1,200 prisoners, including Taliban fighters - fled the site. Just three years later, 550 prisoners escaped through a 100m long tunnel that started construction from a nearby house that had actually been searched by security forces. The tunnel was well-built, with electricity, ventilation and a professional style, leading officials to believe that it was dug out by engineers.
