Whenever you were having a bad day, probably because you were tired or hungry - usually both - you would be a nightmare for your parents. Although it was unintentional at the time because you were simply being a child, that didn't stop them from resorting to threats and you've probably heard it now more than ever as an adult. "if you don't behave, that lady is going to shout at you and take you away to live with her. Is that what you want?" Of course you didn't, you were terrified of all shop assistants. And if you're now a shop assistant and parents use you as a threat, it's the most awkward time of your shift because you're trying to not look evil to the poor child.
