5. Hoping They Don't Mess Up Paper Towns

Ah, book-to-film adaptations - what a perilous thing they are. How rare it is to be pleasantly surprised by the cinematic portrayal of a novel. John Green fans were immensely fortunate the adaption of The Fault In Our Stars was so successful. It may come across as soppier on the screen than on the page, but it's certainly a far cry from a Nicholas Sparks movie. Even critics responded positively to the movie, praising the story's wit, humour, charm and the awesome performances by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

Fans are cautiously optimistic, then, about the big-screen release of Paper Towns - but it's impossible not to be slightly worried, too. More than any other art form, novels create in fans an incredibly evangelistic passion and zeal - they form deeply personal connections with readers and are often held close to the heart, which is why the phrase "the book is better" is so common.
