12 Questions Stand Up Comics Hate Being Asked

9. 'How Can You Be That Brave?'

Pass over the medals! Comedy is going to battle: your troops are four other comics you squeezed into the car to split the petrol bill, the stage is your battlefield and the audience (if there is any when you finally get there!) they are the enemy with the crossed arms and bad attitudes but you will conquer and make everyone in the room fall apart with laughter. So yes, we are the brave! Alright, alright ... maybe a little too dramatic BUT this is quite close to how it all feels.

8. 'Will You Accept (Insert Something Of Very Little Value Here) As Payment For The Gig?'

'I can't offer you a paid gig but if you perform twenty minutes for me tonight I will give you a good quote' If only quotes paid the bills, hey? Promoters sometimes really do have deep pockets and payment for gigs can come in all different sorts of disappointing shapes and sizes; few cold sandwiches, free entry for a mate or maybe even a beer at the end. Don't worry though when the big money starts rolling in all this gigging for free will be a thing of the past and that's coming pretty soon, right? Right?
