12 Times That Shia LaBeouf Made An Absolute Ass Of Himself
4. "Retires From All Public Life" Only To Return Four Days Later (January 2014)
After apparently getting everything he wanted out of the plagiarism scandal, LaBeouf announced via Twitter that he would be "retiring from all public life" as a result of "the recent attacks against artistic integrity", adding the hashtagged comment, "#stopcreating". This caused many news outlets to jump on the word "retire" and completely ignore "all public life", presuming that this meant he was going to retire from the film profession, rather than simply disappear from the Twittersphere for a while. Jim Carrey took a hilarious jab at him at the Golden Globes, stating, "Dying is easy, comedy is hard. I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that. So young, so wise", and this apparently rankled the actor enough that his retirement lasted a whole four days before he returned to Twitter to disparage Carrey for his remarks.
