As one of only two mammals on this list, it could be argued that the Aye-aye technically falls into the category of "creepy-cute", but even so, that doesn't mean it doesn't look like it entered this world by crawling out of a haunted mirror.

The Aye-aye is a type of lemur that mainly lives at the very tops of trees and only comes out to hunt at night; it is then that their long, spindly come into use. Aye-ayes are omnivorous, but one of their favourite snacks is a handful of big, juicy insect larvae commonly found under the bark of trees.

The Aye-aye uses its extra long, extra creepy middle finger to tap on the bark in order to locate hollow spots from which it will extract the delicious grubs.

It is unique to Madagascar and is becoming increasingly endangered. This is unfortunately due to the local belief that they are bad omens and they are often killed on sight. The legend goes that if the Aye-aye points at you, then you are marked for death. Some even say that it will finish you off itself by sneaking into your bedroom at night and puncturing your heart with its long, sharp fingers.

These stories are completely untrue, but you can sort of see where they came from, considering the poor Aye-aye's resemblance to some kind of demonic bat with eyes like lamps and fingers like Dementors.

A little bit cute, but mainly creepy.
