You will be unsurprised to learn that this particular bit of nightmare fuel has remained unchanged since evolved into its current form around 160 million years ago.

Without any size comparison, you'd think this thing was just a harmless little woodlouse, but once you figure out that it's actually the size of a puppy, but with more legs, the irresistable  urge to kill it with fire wells up inside of you.

These things are found all over the world, but every species is pretty much identical. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and all that (just concentrate on suppressing the urge to break it).

The giant isopod, in all its many, scuttley forms, is actually pretty harmless. They're natural scavengers that bomb around the seabed at depths of 200 to 2000 meters, hoovering up any debris that they can find.

Even with this in mind, you still probably wouldn't want to find one hatching a brood of eggs in the corner of your shower. Some things are best left in the sea.
