Crime: Reckless driving Initially, the charge was death by dangerous driving. Back in 1987 when Broderick was dating Jennifer Grey, the couple were driving a rented car in Ireland with Matthew at the wheel. He was driving on the wrong side of the road when he crashed into an on coming vehicle instantly killing a mother and her daughter. Broderick suffered concussion, a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and leg whereas Grey got away with a few minor injuries. The charges were reduced to reckless driving and he walked away with $175 top pay in fines with no jail time. The victims' family considered the injustice a travesty.
