6. Christopher Bernard Wilder (April 13, 1984) - Notorious American Serial Killer Dies During Stand-Off With Police On Friday 13th
A serial killer, who abducted, raped and murdered at least eight women, is shot and killed during a stand-off with police on Friday 13th. You couldn't write the script, could you? Christopher Bernard Wilder, an Australian-born American, abducted and raped at least 12 women during a six-week cross-continent spree in the USA during 1984 - murdering at least eight of them too. He is also suspected of having killed two teenage girls in Sydney, Australia, in 1965, although this has never been proven. The man who became know as "The Beauty Queen Killer" - due to the fact all his victims were young and pretty - started his murder spree in Florida on February 26, 1984 (including raping two girls, aged 10 and 12), and then killed others in states including Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, California and New York. After Wilder attempted and failed to abduct 19-year-old Carol Hilbert in Beverly, Massachusetts, on Friday April 13, his registration number was passed on to the police - who cornered the serial killer in Colebrook, New Hampshire. Arming himself with a .357 Magnum, Wilder tried to attack two police officers - and in the scuffle two bullets were fired that passed straight through the murderer's heart, killing him instantly. Therefore Friday 13th brought to an end one of the most-notorious serial-killing sprees in American history.
