13 Famous People Who Died On Friday 13th

5. Mickey Spillane (May 13, 1977) - Mobster Murdered Outside His Own Apartment On Friday 13th

Michael "Mickey" Spillane was known as the "last of the gentleman gangsters" after leading his mob in the New York City district of Hell's Kitchen between the 1960s and 1970s. The Irish-American mobster was considered to be a far-less aggressive gang leader than those of the Westies who succeeded him in the area, and his apprentice was murdered by a young upstart named Jimmy Coonan in 1966. It is believed that Coonan - who allied with the Gambino family, a rival to the Hell's Kitchen rackets - then returned to plot the murder of Spillane on Friday May 13, 1977. As Spillane left his apartment in Queens, New York City, he was shot and killed by a mystery gunman - leading many to believe Coonan was somehow involved because the latter took over as the boss of the Hell's Kitchen Irish Mob.
