10. Billund: The Town That LEGO Built

Billund in Denmark is very much a LEGO town: distinguishing where the distinction between the brand and its home is often very difficult. And there's good reason for that - this is where the company was born, and it's where Ole Kirk Christiansen chose to stay and produce his toys even after his factory burned down more than once.

LEGO built the airport, and LEGOLand looms large over the surrounding area. It feels very much like the centre of the universe here, as if the rest sprung up solely in response to the country's most famous export.
