13 Places We Might Go When We Die

10. Purgatory

limbo 4 This is the in-between, the place where you go to linger and suffer, while you're waiting to be admitted to Heaven - in limbo - in temporary anguish - the religious equivalent of a time out - the whole - 'Go in that corner, think about what you've done, and don't you dare leave until you're ready to say you're sorry.' A modern version would be - stranded at a foreign airport, with no food, no luggage, no money, ATM"s out of cash, your phone's out of juice with the charger stuck in your checked luggage, and there's nowhere to sit, nowhere to escape. You find yourself wedged between a group of wilderness survivalists, who badly need a bath, under the blaring tannoy, which yells every few minutes, in a myriad of languages, 'Sorry for the delay, but the weather is not cooperating.' You know you'll be free at some point, but when you're stuck in the moment, it feels like it will never end. You dream of pizza and wine at your favorite restaurant, a hot shower, and your own cozy bed!
