If there's one day more dangerous than November 5th in Jarrow, it's derby day. The town's unique position between Newcastle and Sunderland means that it can become a chillingly hostile place when the cities' football teams clash. Neutrals are advised to not wear team colours, avoid public transport if possible, and stay out of the pubs. In fairness, the derby has become slightly safer in the modern era, but can still lead to incredible fits of passion and anger across the town. Virtually everybody in Jarrow supports either Sunderland or Newcastle (with a fairly substantial leaning towards the Magpies, if I'm being brutally honest), and neither set of fans are known for being particularly shy about their allegiances.
