13 Things You Should Never Say To A Stephen King Fan

9. 'Was Stanley Kubrick A Good Director For The Shining?

Hell yes! Ok, so Shelley Duvall (who plays Wendy Torrance) had a bit of a mental breakdown during production because he pushed her so hard. And Kubrick dismissed Stephen King€™s screen play because he once described King€™s writing as €˜weak€™. AND Kubrick apparently took the time to write up those 500 typed pages of €˜All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy€™ €“ like a maniac. But have you seen the finished product? It took five years to make, made $47 million in the United States, and was one the top ten highest-grossing films of 1980. Damn right it's amazing! Top tip for King fans: if you haven€™t already, try watching Room 237. It€™s a documentary covering a variety of fan theory conspiracies about The Shining, ranging from the mythic story of the Minotaur to the film actually being about the Holocaust. It makes for a great conversation started between you and other King fans.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
