13 Tie-In Toys That Look Nothing Like They Were Supposed To

4. General Zod - Mego Pocket Super Heroes

ZodWith the arrival of the first Superman film in 1978, General Zod became hot property for Mego Corporation. The toy company giant created 12-inch figures as part of a movie tie-in, which included Lex Luthor, Jor-El, Superman and General Zod. Though the facial likeness on the 12 inch figure was good, due to licensing purposes, Mego opted for a variation on Zod's costume from the comics in the final line-up. But, as with Wonder Woman, General Zod also appeared in pocket form and was released as part of a Pocket Super Hero set with Lex Luthor and Jor-El. And that's where the problems came in. Pocket General Zod and his companions were released in the first wave of the figures line-up, but due to low sales never saw the light of day again. This pocket-sized baddie bears a vague resemblance to Terence Stamp, and also Bob Hoskins for some reason, and it looks suspiciously like he's wearing a beauticians tunic, grey tights and industrial rubber gloves, which is just plain unnerving.

3. Aunt May - Marvel Famous Covers

Aunt May In the late '90s, Toy Biz began producing a series of 8-inch action figures under the production line: Marvel Famous Covers, which ran for a number of years and included the likes of Spider-Man, Wolverine and Green Goblin in its first batch. The line was considerably successful and created astute likeness to many of the comic book characters. But there was also an absolute gem in this series, one that collectors sought after so highly that she was a mail away order: Peter Parker's sweet Aunt May. At least she was supposed to be sweet, which doesn't at all sit well with the demonic, Hell-spawn face that fans actually got, which is not to mention her horribly ill-fitting costume and gigantically long Orangutan-length arms.
