14 Important Life Lessons You Only Learn By Accident

10. Dating Your Best Friend Isn't Always A Good Idea

Even the most oblivious of us know how to recognise when a friendship is becoming something more, and there is an attraction that simply must be answered because...well, there is no logical reason sometimes. Many people will date their best friend and turn out alright. But some will date the person simply out of obligation, and that usually doesn't turn out so well. There have been times when I have been pressured into dating a close friend because everyone me told me I'd be foolish not to. My first lesson then was that you shouldn't date someone out of external obligation. You know better than your friends when it comes to who you're attracted to and want to pursue a relationship with. Sadly, we date the person anyway and end up breaking up because of (pick your reason here). Even more unfortunate is when the friendship is ruined by awkwardness and resentment. I'm not saying you shouldn't date your best friend. Far from it. Just make sure that you think through the consequences first.
