14 Problems Only Runners Will Understand

9. The Injury

Perhaps the only thing worse than losing motivation is the injury. Now, usually an injury could happen during the winter. At the time when, really, you could do without the training. Yes, it would mean dropping out of a race but, well, it€™s cold and when the sun comes out, wow, you€™re going to feel great. Injuries, however, are nasty little things because they usually come when you€™re at your peak. They usually happen when you have your favourite race coming up. In fact, pick your happiest moment of the year, picture yourself smiling on the start line, then picture yourself smacking a baseball bat off your knee. That, that right there is your body taking the proverbials out of you. If you have friends who run, it€™s even worse. They can give you all the sympathy in the world but you know what they€™re really thinking. €˜Thank God it€™s not me.€™ The physio is boring. The resting up and inevitable weight gain is depressing and when your knee is sorted and you€™re ready to run again and restart your life? Yep. It€™s winter again. Thanks knee. Thanks a lot. €˜Knee Problem€™ as the Scots would say.
