14 Reasons Your 20s Are Just Like The Lord Of The Rings

7. You Find Out What True Evil Is

While the orcs are quite an extreme force of evil, Sauron is obviously the main evil entity in LOTR. That crazy old necromancer needs some anger management, because he has sure got a bee in his bonnet about something. And guess who Sauron takes the form of in your twenties? You, of course - or more specifically, your self confidence. Sauron and his posse of Saruman, the millions of orcs, the angry hybrid hyenas, the constant battles which leave the good guys with limited sources - these are your brain's niggling worries, the knocks to your confidence, your inability to get past the things in your twenties that upset you. Your subconscious, basically. No one can knock your confidence down like you can. Sure, someone might tell you you're ugly or stupid or a waste of space, but these are just words thrown at you in emotional bursts, which you can move on from to become a better, stronger person. Frodo, upon finally succeeding in his quest, comes out the other side unharmed (mostly) and braver than he was before. He's experienced in life now; he's seen things no one else has, and has used these experiences to arm him for later life. This is what happens in your twenties. You do things and feel things and see things which make you think your whole life is over and that getting older is totally overrated, but then you get to the other side and realise, actually, it wasn't all that bad. (It's easier with hindsight, admittedly).

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
